NYC Performance Competition is devoted to giving New York City performing artists of all sorts opportunities to perform and compete, and win and earn money for their work. Here's how it works:
We have regular events in the following categories (they take place at various venues in Manhattan):
Stand-Up Comedy
Shortform Improv Comedy
Longform Improv Comedy
Sketch Comedy
Original Singer/Songwriters
Musical Theatre Cabaret Singers
Poetry
Acting - Monologues
Acting - Scenes
Writing - Short Fiction Writing And Recitation
Writing - Short Non-Fiction Writing And Recitation
At each event, the winner is determined by audience vote. To avoid the winner simply being the one who brought the most people (though we absolutely want you to invite lots of folks!), every audience member must submit two valid votes for their ballot to count, and they cannot be for the same contestant. There is a $25 entry fee per contestant (or group), and the winner of the night wins $100 cash. Contestants may return to future events in their category as often as they like (the $25 fee will still apply), but space priority will be given to new competitors. Audience admission will be $10 and possibly a drink minimum depending on the venue.
Besides the competitive events, all artists who have competed once are eligible to participate as often as they like in our "Potpourri Nights", which happen at least once a month, which are events where we mix up artists from the different categories. These are NON-COMPETITIVE, there is NO FEE to perform in them, AND 50% OF THE HOUSE GETS DISTRIBUTED DIRECTLY TO THAT NIGHT'S PERFORMERS! Again, audience admission will be $10 plus drink minimum if applicable.
To sign up, simply email us at NYCPerformanceCompetition@gmail.com, tell us what category you'd like to compete in, and we'll start inviting you to events!
